Jacarri's environmentally friendly features include:

Two x 80 w solar panels on the roof keep two large battery banks charged. These power the lights and any small 240v appliances you have (cassette player, shaver, etc).

Bio paints were used for all interior paintwork and floor varnishes, so there are no toxic fumes from paints 'gassing off'.

Plantation pine or salvaged/recycled hardwood timbers have been used to build the cottage. No native forest trees or rainforest were cut down for its construction.

A cast iron wood stove cooks meals, warms the cottage in winter and with the help of another wood heater, keeps the domestic water hot.

Rainwater tank provides clean, fresh, untreated water for drinking.

Further up river, a clever, home-engineered water wheel, using the old 'Archimedes screw' principle, pumps water to a tank on the hill. Water then gravity feeds back to the cottage and farm.

The smoke alarm is non-radioactive, unlike most on the market.

The 'loo with a view' is a dry composting toilet that needs no water, septic or sewage treatment plant to deal with the waste.

The north facing veranda and wide front steps are made for lounging on, the rocking chair for relaxation and the table and chairs for enjoying breakfast with the birds, all overlooking the paddocks and hills.
